Cameron Walker, Customer First - National Infrastructure Programme Manager

Cameron leads the development of the Citizen’s Account and works across the wider public sector to promote the use of Customer First solutions to drive the development of strategies and solutions that will contribute to improved customer outcomes and more cost effective services for Scotland. He plays a leading role in shaping policy and strategy to develop the provision of customer centric services that will result in a range of benefits and savings. This involves working closely with the Directors of Shared Services and Operational Services, and a variety of senior stakeholders from across the public sector, inc. NHSS, Scottish Government Health Department, UK Cabinet Office, UK Dept of Work & Pensions and the Scottish Government Efficient Government & Identity Policy Branch.

Cameron has a background in Information Technology and Business Change. Starting his career in the private sector in 1984 as a Programmer in a Software House developing bespoke financial and stock control systems. Before moving to the public sector in 1988 with the NHS, CSA as part of the Prescription Pricing programme. He moved into Local Government in 1989 and gained an eclectic IT experience including business support and ICT infrastructure & network development.

Local Government re-organisation in 1996 saw Cameron joining South Lanarkshire Council’s IT Infrastructure team. The early years at the Council were spent with the rationalisation and amalgamation of the district and regional infrastructures. He then moved into IT Business Systems as a Project Manager in 1998. In 2000 he joined the council’s Modernising Government team, helping to implement the Council’s modernising government strategy and the development of the CRM and Intranet solutions.

In 2003 he was seconded to the Scottish Executive’s MGF programme to lead the delivery of the CRM/Citizen Account programme. In 2005 he moved to the National Infrastructure programme working on the early development of the business case and programme blue print through the procurement and implementation. He moved to his present post with the Improvement Service in 2007.
