Since May 2003 Iain has been Programme Manager for the MGF2-funded Definitive National Address for Scotland (DNA-Scotland) Programme. This has involved working with all 32 Scottish Councils and 14 Assessors in assisting them in building Corporate Address Gazetteers (CAG) to common specifications and requirements, necessary to ensure that they can be aggregated into a national dataset.

He is currently responsible for working alongside Councils in completing their CAGs and ensuring that they remain sustainable through integration with core business systems and with external stakeholders, and for ensuring that a national dataset can be delivered.

On graduating from Glasgow University in 1980, Iain worked as a surveyor in several remote locations worldwide before returning to Scotland in 1984 when he joined a small survey company in Dunfermline. The company was a pioneer in the use of the emergent information technology which was transforming the survey industry and through this became the largest survey company in the United Kingdom.

He joined Strathclyde Regional Council, Estates Department in 1986 and was involved in the development and implementation of ICT applications, particularly those involved with the management of land and property information. In 1988 he became a chartered surveyor. After the 1996 re-organisation of local government, Iain transferred to Glasgow City Council where he was Information Manager for Development and Regeneration Services.

In June 2005 Iain completed an MBA in which he specialised in Knowledge Management, the Management of Technology and Creativity, Innovation and Change.
