HSN 1: Tenant arrears as percentage of rent due
Summary Definition

This indicator calculates tenant rent arrears as a proportion (%) of the rent due to the council (the total charges levied by the council for rent and services).

Some councils do not provide a housing service.

Why do we measure this?

The successful collection of council tenants' rent indicates an effective service. Comparing collection rates between councils is important because it helps us understand where variations occur and why they exist. This indicator will allow councils with low rent arrears to share their methods and experience.

For the 2013/14 data, this measure is taken from the Scottish Social Housing Charter. Whilst this measure calculates tenant arrears as the previous measure, the methodology differs slightly from the previous measure did, and as such it is not possible to provide a direct comparison with previous years.
