Progress Update
The Operational Management ‘ Train the Facilitator’ programme successfully completed the nine-day intensive training element in June 2007. This aspect of the programme received extremely positive feedback and a strong willingness from the participants to continue to work together to develop their individual delivery skills as well as developing the material further to complement internal offerings within their individual councils. A summary of the feedback is available in Operational Management Programme Feedback

Several of the participants have already delivered some of the material within their councils and a Community of Practice has been hosted by the Improvement Service which will allow the pilot participants the continued capability to share their enthusiasm and experience in taking the benefits forward.

Background
The Improvement Service has partnered with Sensa Training to develop an innovative transformational leadership programme for Delivery End/Operational Managers.

The pilot programme got underway in April 2007 using a modular format involving work based assignments with experienced OD trainers. Feedback from the pilot is extremely positive with some trainers already offering the programme material within their home authorities. Future ‘train the trainer’ sessions are planned to help support the further implementation of the programme material. A Community of Practice (Facilitator Forum) has been established to continue to share ideas and experiences during and following the programme.

Operational Management Programme Descriptions include:

  • Management Effectiveness
  • Managing Change
  • Providing Excellent Customer Service
  • Delivering Results (performance management)
  • The Essentials of Project Management
  • Influencing Stakeholders
  • Effective Networking

Please note that the Operational Managers' Development Programme will be reviewed in 2008-09 and may be revised in accordance.
