Step 6 - PDP meeting

  • You should ensure that appropriate Council Officer(s) have been identified to conduct the PDP meetings with the Elected Members.  It is recommended that the PDP meetings are conducted by an Officer from Member Services and/or an Officer from Organisational Development, dependent on where responsibility for Elected Member development lies. If, however, you wish to contract a third party to undertake the PDP meetings that would be acceptable.   You should give the officers conducting the PDP meetings a copy of the Checklist for Council Officers: Preparing for and Facilitating the PDP Meeting.

  • You should ensure that the Officer(s) conducting the PDP meetings contact the Elected Members to arrange a suitable time for the PDP meetings. The Officer(s) should allow approximately 1 ½ hours per meeting.  Once confirmed, the Officer(s) should notify you of the date of the meetings for your records.

  • Once an Elected Member’s meeting has been confirmed, you should e-mail the Elected Member and Officer facilitating the PDP meeting the Guidance on Personal Development Planning.
  • If an Elected Member has undertaken a self-assessment development profile, the officer conducting the PDP meeting may find it useful to look at the Overview Analysis. This document outlines how the average Elected Member who participated in the CPD Framework pilot project rated their skills and behaviours, and it will enable the officer conducting the PDP meeting to provide the Elected Member with a comparison of their ratings against the ratings in the overview analysis.  The officer conducting the PDP meeting may wish to give a copy of the Overview Analysis to the Elected Member.
