Review of the Scottish Diet Action Plan PDF Print
The Scottish Diet Action Plan (SDAP) was launched in July 1996. It set out a series of 71 recommendations for action to improve the diets of Scots and established a series of dietary targets for achievement by 2005. In September 2006, Health Scotland published the SDAP Review report that examined the progress, impacts, successes and challenges that arose from the implementation of the 1996 Scottish Diet Action Plan.

The 71 SDAP recommendations have been the basis on which food and health action in Scotland has been shaped over the last ten years. The review report explained that the last decade saw a major shift in food production and attitudes to diet and health, causing a considerable impact on shopping, buying and eating patterns. For a better diet to be achieved, the report suggests that changes are required across the supply chain and into many policy areas, which shape what people eat, where and when and how it is produced.
