The 2008 COSLA conference: Scottish Governance New Era, New Opportunities, created an excellent opportunity for the Local Government Heath Improvement Programme to exhibit and promote the work of Local Government in improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities and develop opportunities for partnership working with councils across Scotland.  This year the conference aimed to look at the changing relationship between central and local government, the discussions and debates focused around the development of the Single Outcome Agreement and taking the Concordant forward, as well as looking at specific issues such as the role of the public sector in tackling health inequalities

Consultancy support for focus on alcohol Angus project PDF Print E-mail

The Local Government Health Improvement Programme in partnership with the Scottish Government is providing consultancy support to the Community Planning Partnership and the Focus on Alcohol Angus Project.  This is to help develop improved outcome focused planning in local authorities and their partners and give an evaluation of the Focus on Alcohol Angus Process adopted by the CPP.  This support aims to strengthen knowledge of existing theory and evidence on the impact of the social determinants of health in relation to alcohol, to provide local authorities with supported evidence of outcomes focused planning, and provide a resource to other authorities who decide to use this method of planning.

Local Authorities Contribution to Health Improvement Outcomes PDF Print E-mail

Scottish local authorities play an important role in improving health and wellbeing both in terms of influencing lifestyle as well as impacting on the wider determinates of health. An engagement event was held on the 11 July with representatives from local authorities across Scotland.  The event aimed to open up discussions around the 3 following areas:

1. Would councils welcome a set of national outcomes for health improvement?
2. Would councils welcome local health improvement outcome agreements for their services and/or the CPP?
3. How should success and improvements in health and reduction in health inequalities across council services and CPPs be reviewed and measured?
