‘Introduction to the planning system’ e-learning module

E-mail Print PDF

This e-learning module provides an introduction to the planning system in Scotland for elected members.

Based around the comprehensive ‘Guide to the Planning Service’, it includes information and interactive exercises on the purpose of the planning system, the planning process, conduct, and roles and responsibilities of elected members.

While it is particularly useful for members with a specialist planning role, it can also be used as a general introduction to the planning system for all elected members and for staff. The module takes around 30 minutes to work through, and can be completed all at once or one section at a time.

The module has been produced by the Improvement Service with help from a number of local authorities and the Scottish Government. It is one of a number of resources available to support local induction plans for new and returning elected members. These include:

  • an overview leaflet which explains how the planning process works and provides guidance on roles and responsibilities of elected members;
  • a comprehensive guide to the planning system which is of particular value to elected members with specialist planning roles.

‘Introduction to the planning system’ is available now to download to your Local Learning Management System (LMS), website or intranet from our learning hub, access2learning (A2L). Local authorities that use the Brightwave Learning Management System (LMS) can also edit the module to add in local information, such as links, local policies and procedures, or council branding.
