The Minister for Public Finance and Digital Economy, Kate Forbes MSP, visited the Improvement Service to find out more about the organisation’s role in supporting local government improvement and transformation. The visit specifically focused on the close partnership work between the Scottish Government and the Improvement Service in delivering high quality digital public services which are continually improving and responsive to citizens' needs.
The key purpose of the Improvement Service is to help and support councils and their partners to improve and deliver high quality, efficient local services by providing a wide range of improvement support at a local, regional and national level. The Improvement Service is funded by Scottish Government to deliver the Customer First programme, which includes the roll-out of myaccount to support the delivery of local services online and the National Entitlement Card.
Cllr. Alison Evison, Chairperson of the IS Board, said: “I am delighted to welcome the Minister Kate Forbes to the IS’ office in Livingston to discuss the impact the organisation’s work has on supporting improvement in local government, what it has achieved in partnership with local government and Scottish Government and what more we can achieve together.”
Sarah Gadsden, Interim Chief Executive of the IS, said: “We are very proud that the Minister has chosen to visit us to hear more about the support that the Improvement Service is providing for local and national government. We work in collaboration with Scottish Government on a suite of digital services and we look forward to continuing this partnership to provide, improve and expand key digital public services for the people of Scotland.”
The IS works closely with COSLA, SOLACE, local government professional associations and other public service improvement agencies to provide improvement support on key local and national priorities, such as inclusive growth, health and social care, children and young people and place. The IS also manages national address and spatial data on behalf of local government, which underpins, for example, the census and planning.
The IS receives additional grant funding from Scottish Government to deliver improvement support to local government in a range of priority areas, such as the early learning and childcare expansion, local child poverty action reports, planning skills and tackling violence against women.
