Our library contains documents held on the Improvement Service site together with links to documents held externally. A list of websites which also hold publications and information useful to those working in local government is available in our Information Sources section.

Users of the IS site are invited to submit documents that they think will be of value to other site users. Please note that you must be a registered user of the Improvement Service website and logged in if you wish to submit a new document. Documents submitted will not appear on the site immediately but will be subject to approval by our editorial team.

The Improvement Service Knowledge Management Strategy, which sets out how the IS plans to help increase and improve knowledge sharing across Scottish local government. Our aim is to foster the creation and management of an environment that encourages knowledge to be created, shared, learnt and exploited for the benefit of all of local government, its partners and its customers.
This document presents a summary of all the structured exercises that were run at the facilitators, groups and communities event on 27-11-07 at the Tollbooth in Stirling. the structured sessions covered: Hopes and fears - and the what worked/didn't bit Story telling (the highs and lows of working in a group) Demand and supply The appendix to this document contains all the data from the event - all the post its are listed under the appropriate headings.
This set of powerpoint slides is use to discuss with knowledge champions on what knowledge management is; what products and services improvement service offer; in order to seek their feedback to shape the programme. Initially, we aim at providing (a) a KM platform to enable easy access to relevant resources; (b) hands on advice and consultancy on methodologies to build and nurture Communities of Practice; (c) In 2006, we will pilot a web-based solution to support collaborative team working; (d) we will improve KM capability in the Scottish Local Government by providing quarterly training for knowledge champions and organising regular networking events to link up knowledge champions. Some actual examples of KM projects such as conducting social networking analysis and project debrief are included here.
