The council needs to ensure that as much of this accumulated experience as possible is retained within the organisation before these employees leave. This case study outlines how the existing managing leavers policy has been adapted to incorporate knowledge capture on exit.
Aberdeen City Council's KM strategy is designed to ensure all information and knowledge created and used within the council is accessible to all and to ensure that information and knowledge are managed and controlled in a co-ordinated and cost-effective manner. In this presentation at the Best Value Conference 2006, Bonnie Cheuk of the Improvement Service and David Porter of PricewaterhouseCoopers asked what's in it for me to share my knowledge, and how can it help me to achieve greater efficiency, quality and accountability? Using Best Value examples, this session demonstrated the value that a practical approach to sharing knowledge can bring to Scottish local government - and the challenges of getting it right.
