This outline workshop is a suggested approach to preparing councillors for their first few days in office and introducing the subject of corporate governance. The facilitator guidance gives an overview of the workshop showing the various sessions and activities, advice on preparation and resources, and guidance on what to include in each session.

This sets out the objectives of the workshop for attending councillors - to help them understand their role as a newly appointed councillor, prepare them for their first few days in office and introduce them to corporate governance.

This exercise introduces the importance of performance management and enables councillors to identify effective performance indicators for service improvements.

This exercise will enable participants to explore the skills, knowledge and behaviours that support corporate governance and get to know their fellow councillors better.

This exercise consolidates the theory of corporate governance. It encourages councillors to reflect on their role and transfer learning by identifying some of the actions they can take to support this role.
