The National Gazetteer for Scotland provides an accurate, up to date database of land and property data/assets for all Scottish councils and also for other parts of the public sector.
The National Gazetteer is maintained by the 32 Scottish local authorities, who provide monthly updates to the national hub. The National Gazetteer Board oversees the operational management and future direction of the National Gazetteer and is made up of representatives from the Improvement Service, Local Authorities and Scottish Assessors. The Board has appointed Stirling Council as the Lead Council responsible for the day-to-day management of the National Gazetteer. As National Gazetteer Custodians, Forth Valley GIS Limited manage the operation of the National Gazetteer on behalf of Stirling Council.
The National Gazetteer is fully integrated within the Scottish National Infrastructure. The Improvement Service coordinates Business Development of the National Gazetteer, promoting its use, and coordinating access.
The gazetteer is being used to support new national applications in e-Planning and for issuing Energy Certificates for the new Homebuyers packs. In addition, a large number of organisations have expressed an interest in using the gazetteer in the future.
