The Scottish Executive has produced a new Community Planning Advice Note, developed by the Community Planning Team with help and advice from a wide range of stakeholders. The note explores the underlying reasons for and principles of effective engagement and includes illustrations of practice, information on various toolkits and contacts for relevant organisations. It also includes a framework for thinking through how engagement is planned at a CPP level, based on the National Standards for Community Engagement which CPPs may find useful in evaluating overall progress. At consultation, the note was well received...
"The note is useful in that it demonstrates the need to work collaboratively and to plan a more integrated approach to service provision. It reflects issues of practice in youth and children’s work alongside the policy perspective.” CPP
“The Advice Note provides clear, descriptive information on involving children and young people in the community planning process. We welcome the direction of the Advice Note as being aimed at all adults working on issues that may impact on the lives of Scotland’s children, not solely those who work with children and young people on a day to day basis.” Voluntary Sector Body
You can find the advice note in a new section in the Community Planning document library, set up to share examples of practice and further sources of information. The section also includes some text developed by Young Scot with a group of young people, explaining what Community Planning is and what it can do for them. If you have material to add to the section please email stephen.krzyzanowski@scotland.gsi.gov.uk
