The theme of the conference was 'Urban Trialogues' and focused on strategic projects that need to be planned and implemented in agreement between a variety of actors and stakeholders, set in the context of the changing role of governance. The aim of the sponsorship was to provide the delegates with a more internationalist outlook on the planning profession and to raise the profile of Scotland within the ISoCaRP network. The young planners who attended the conference prepared a report on their experiences, which is available to download.

The Improvement Service, through the Planning Development Programme, sponsored six young planners to attend the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISoCaRP) annual conference, which was held in Antwerp, Belgium in September.
