North Lanarkshire Council is one of only four Scottish local authorities to achieve corporate accreditation by Investors in People for all council services.

Investors in People (IiP) is a national standard that promotes continuous improvement through the development of our staff.

Chief Executive Gavin Whitefield says that achieving the standard is a credit to everyone at the council:

"This is an excellent achievement for the council as it recognises the commitment of all our employees and elected members to delivering a good service to residents. The IiP accreditation shows that the council is investing in its own workforce to help improve local services for everyone, and this is a key element of our change management programme, Service and People First.

"Each of our services has received Investors in People accreditation individually over recent years, so this corporate accreditation builds on this work to set a standard across the whole organisation. It is the first step in a long-term commitment to continuous improvement across the council, and the Investors in People framework will help us do this by following their principles of planning, doing and reviewing.

"Using the IiP framework, we are now looking at how best to drive forward our continuous improvement and planning processes to develop further the services we provide, based on the priorities for local communities that residents tell us are important."

The council has set up an internal review programme to ensure that the IiP standard continues to be met across the council, and to support the continuous improvement process.

Council Leader Jim McCabe said:

"Its our staff who deliver the many local services that we provide so its vital that we invest in the training and development that gives them the skills they need to provide a quality service for all our residents. The Investors in People accreditation is an independent endorsement that we're doing this effectively. However, achieving the standard is only the beginning of our long term plans, through our change programme Service and People First, to build the expertise, skills and knowledge that our workforce need to deliver the best services we can for the people of North Lanarkshire."
