The National Recruitment Portal for Scottish local authorities has been soft-launched with eight councils taking part in the first phase of the project.
Myjobscotland.gov.uk will allow participating authorities to advertise vacancies and search for candidates across Scotland. Each council also has a dedicated mini-site where it can publish additional information for candidates, such as council and local area profiles.
Key benefits provided by the portal include:
- a single source for council job adverts to improve the candidate experience;
- reducing the cost of recruiting for councils;
- accessing a wider pool of applicants;
- the promotion of local government as an exciting dynamic career option;
The portal will also enable Scottish local authorities to improve the efficiency and productivity of the recruitment process.
The eight councils taking part in Phase One are:
-
Clackmannanshire
- Inverclyde
- Moray
- North Ayrshire
- North Lanarkshire
- Orkney
- South Ayrshire
- Stirling
Two further councils - West Dunbartonshire and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar - will go live later in July. It is anticipated that all Scottish local authorities will be online by Autumn 2008.
Ninety jobs have been advertised on the portal in the first two weeks, with 700 applications in progress.
In the last two weeks in June, North Ayrshire advertised in the region of 40 jobs on their site. They have had nearly 200,000 hits to their council site with over 6000 job viewings and about 400 online applications in progress.
"So far there has been lots of positive feedback such as the professional look of our micro-site, improving the job role of the clerical staff who are involved in our recruitment processes ... Last but not least, every day it becomes more apparent that the portal will be able to give us considerable savings both in time and money!" said Miriam Oliphant, North Ayrshire Council.
