Nine councils scoop excellence awards

Nine Scottish councils were honoured for quality of service to the public at the COSLA Excellence Awards 2008.

North Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, Argyll & Bute, West Dunbartonshire, Fife and Glasgow City councils took first place in the six main categories of the awards.

North Lanarkshire Council took the Best Team award while South Lanarkshire Council was given the Chairman's Award. Aberdeenshire Council was presented with the Scottish Government's Delivering Excellence Award for its sustainable energy project.

COSLA Vice President, Councillor Rob Murray, who chaired the judging panel, described the entries for the awards as outstanding: "Each of the winning projects is wholly innovative and dynamic, and it has been a  very positive experience to be involved in the judging of these projects which represent the very best of public service delivery across all of Scottish local government today."

  • Category 1: Service Innovation and Improvement - North Ayrshire Council, Inclusive Childcare
  • Category 2: Advancing Community and Citizen Well Being - Renfrewshire Council, MSupport Project
  • Category 3: Health Improvement - Argyll & Bute Council, Stramash
  • Category 4: Promoting Sustainability - West Dunbartonshire Council, Travelling Green: A Safer and Active Journey to School
  • Category 5: Community Planning and Local Democracy - Fife Council, The Anne Frank + You Festival
  • Category 6: Securing a Workforce for the Future - Glasgow City Council City Building (Glasgow) LLP, Female Lone Parents into Construction
  • SOLACE Best Team Award - North Lanarkshire Council, Saturday Sportscene
  • COSLA Chair Award - South Lanarkshire Council, The DTTO Project for Improving Health and Reducing Crime
  • Scottish Government Award for Delivering Excellence - Aberdeenshire Council, Aboyne Academy Biomass Boiler
