Socitm Insight yesterday published its latest annual survey of over 450 local authority websites in the UK - "Better Connected 2008". Socitm Insight subscribers can download the full report and appendices from the secure members' area of the Insight library at www.socitm.gov.uk/insight
In total, 551 websites were examined for "Better Connected 2008". A team of reviewers carried out a structured survey with 95 questions for local authority websites, followed by seven shorter surveys on specific topics.
This research was supplemented by seven other separate surveys, using partner organisations. The structure of the 2008 report follows Socitm's criteria for high-quality local authority websites that develop the ideas that websites should be ‘useful, usable and used'.
A special survey of Scottish local authority websites was conducted on 30 November 2007 to assess how well councils were promoting St Andrew's Day. The results are rather surprising, leaving considerable scope for improvement this November!
