Best Companies, the organisation behind The Times' Best Company to Work For and Best Council to Work For lists, and the IDeA are looking for councils to take part in the 2009 Best Council to Work For process.

The scheme aims to celebrate the importance of employee engagement and recognise that participating councils are on a journey of improvement, aiming for excellence. Feedback from councils which participated in the 2008 scheme stated that it also provides a valuable insight into workplace engagement and the opportunity to benchmark working practices with other councils.

Participation in the Best Council to Work For project is free of charge and offers:

  • High-profile media attention
  • Top-line results and feedback from employees about their workplace, through our online, interactive ‘Workplace Insight Tool' (WIT)
  • Benchmarking against other councils
  • Year on year results, providing analysis of trends and progress with objectives
  • An optional upgrade to gain extensive additional data, helping to pin point specific areas for improvement
