On Thursday 9th October 2008, Scotland's local authorities became proud employers to Scotland's first SQA qualified Customer Service Professionals.
Launched initially in two councils, the Customer Service Professional Qualifications have been developed by councils, for councils. Thursday 9th October saw the graduation of Scottish Local Government's first ever SQA-qualified Customer Service Professionals.
The Qualifications are the result of close cooperation and a great deal of hard work on the part of the Improvement Service and a consortium of local authorities across Scotland, led by Renfrewshire Council (which also provides a centralised candidate registration and management service for all Scottish councils).
The Customer Service Professional Qualifications, whose development has been Scottish Government-funded, are endorsed by COSLA, certificated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and portable across all Scottish local authorities. It is anticipated that this group of graduate Customer Service Professionals will be the first of many holding this qualification to confidently represent the professional face of local government to the Scottish public.
Renfrewshire's Provost Celia Lawson said: "I warmly congratulate the Renfrewshire Council staff who have become the first people in Scotland to achieve this new qualification. Their achievement is an excellent illustration of Renfrewshire's drive to being a leading authority in customer service and I hope to see many more follow in their footsteps. This has very much been a joint effort and is a great example of partnership working."
