The IDeA has commissioned a report on measuring equality at a local level to help local authorities gather equality data.

Measuring equality at a local level was commissioned partly in response to the new requirement in England's Comprehensive Area Assessments to show "how well inequality is being addressed". The report clarifies the  need for high quality equality data across local government and informs local partners of the availability of information in a wide range of data sources at a local and national level.

The report also uses 10 proposed equality measurements set out in the Equalities Review and now being developed by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission. The material highlights the gaps in information and outlines a number of pragmatic approaches for developing equality information at a local level.
