As part of a national initiative, Dumfries and Galloway Council is now participating in the Customer Service Professional Qualifications.

The Council has responsibility for a wide and varied range of services, such as street lighting, refuse collection and waste disposal, leisure services and much more, many of which remain largely invisible from day-to-day, but which nevertheless make lives safer and more comfortable.

Councillor Peter Duncan, Chair of Resources Committee, said, "It is important that people find dealing with the Council as simple and effective as possible and we are pleased to announce that we are taking another positive step to ensure that our service is amongst the best possible. All of our public-facing staff will now be offered another tool in their armoury to provide people with quick, efficient and pleasant service, in the form of The Customer Service Professional Qualifications."

The first induction day for the course in Dumfries and Galloway will be on 29 April at Garroch Training Centre, Dumfries.
Developed by councils, for councils, the Customer Service Professional (CSP) Qualifications have been designed to be current and directly relevant to customer service issues within Scottish local authorities.  Following pilots in two councils, the qualifications are now being made available to all participating councils.

The qualifications have been developed to focus closely on how the Council provides customer service to our customers, and to ensure that our staff are fully equipped to provide the best possible service.  They are nationally recognised qualifications, certificated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and endorsed by COSLA, and are portable across all Scottish local authorities, ensuring that they represent a long-term investment in how we serve people.
