The Mobile and Flexible Working in Scotland community of practice is welcoming new members to help shape future working practices in the Scottish public sector.

As part of the shared services Diagnostic process, many councils identified flexible working styles as potential drivers for change within their organisations. With the support of Nomad Scotland and the Improvement Service, the Mobile and Flexible Working in Scotland community provides an environment where people in the public sector can exchanges experiences, ideas, questions and documentation and network easily with other people doing similar work.

Almost 100 people have already joined the online group where they can access case studies of councils implementing mobile and flexible working, discussion papers, council guidance and policies and business cases which arose from the Diagnostic.

From 24 -28 August, the community will have its first ‘hotseat'. Mark Baker, Worksmart Manager at Aberdeenshire Council, will host a discussion on benefits realisation - working out how to categorise and measure the projected and actual benefits of flexible working and where to assign them. The event will be held in the forum.

To join the community, go to http://communities.idea.gov.uk and register, then request membership of the group at http://www.communities.idea.gov.uk/c/1339395/home.do.

Anyone with an interest in mobile and flexible working is also invited to attend the Nomad Scotland annual conference in Edinburgh on 1 October 2009.
