Aberdeenshire Live provides localised information about how to access services, and highlights special events and campaigns using a mixture of text, images and streaming footage. It also draws content from local news sources to provide up to the minute information on issues relevant to the area.
Screens are set up in 40 public locations across Aberdeenshire including libraries, schools, community centres, council offices, supermarkets and business centres.
Information can be targeted to specific communities and the system itself is flexible to allow for further expansion and development.
Aberdeenshire Live is a partnership between Aberdeenshire Council and Grampian Police, who believe that it will provide a valuable tool for communicating with residents. Aberdeenshire Council Chief Executive, Colin MacKenzie, said, "Out of Scotland's 32 local authority area, Aberdeenshire is the sixth largest in terms of population and fourth largest in terms of area.
"Whether you live in a town, village or out in the countryside, every resident within Aberdeenshire is entitled to the same information. We have many methods for communicating with residents, including the press, radio, internet and the post. This new system is not designed to replace any of those tools but to complement them."
Grampian Police Chief Superintendent Mark McLaren added, "One of the main roles of Grampian Police is to promote well-being and safety throughout our communities.
"To be able to do this it is vital that we have strong links with the community, work closely alongside our partners and build on our previous successes. Aberdeenshire Live has the potential to let us tell people directly how we are doing that."
