Glasgow Leader named Councillor of the Year

Steven Purcell, Leader of Glasgow City Council, has been named Councillor of the Year at The Herald newspaper's Scottish Politician of the Year Awards.

The Award, which was sponsored by the Improvement Service, was given to Cllr Purcell in recognition of his role in bringing the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Glasgow and a guaranteed "living wage" to thousands of Glasgow workers.

Pat Watters (COSLA) and Martin Ford of Aberdeenshire Council were runners up.

John Swinney MSP was awarded the overall Scottish Politician of the Year accolade.
