A second Masterclass Series for Scottish councillors began in December following the success of the Improvement Service/COSLA events in early 2009.
The Series aims to engage elected members on issues relevant to Scottish local government by exploring in-depth the key issues and challenges it faces over the next term. Eight workshops will look at:- the strategic challenges facing local government
- the performance management and scrutiny challenge
- improving the use of assets and resources
- delivering outcomes - co-production with service users and communities
- improving personal media management skills
- making better use of information in decision-making
- improving personal leadership skills
- improving board level skills
Each interactive workshop will be led by the IS team and subject area experts. As they are built around interconnected themes, participants are encouraged to attend the full programme, although continual attendance is not compulsory.
The Programme runs to June 2010, with each workshop lasting one day. Workshops will take place at partner councils across Scotland and will be run on a cross council and cross party basis.
The Masterclass Series is free to attend but places are limited. For more information on the Series and a booking form, download the Programme.
