A steering group to direct the development of a browser-based elected members caseload management system using the Lagan solution is being put together.
Led by Argyll and Bute Council and the Improvement Service, work began in June 2009 to develop a browser based facility to handle elected members caseload management. The requirements were jointly identified by Scottish Lagan Users, Lagan and the Improvement Service and the ‘Members’ Portal’ will allow elected members to create, view and manage their caseload using the Lagan solution.
The steering group, made up of six councils, will direct the design and build of the Members' Portal to ensure it is easy to use and meets the needs of those involved in member support. We have already worked with the six councils to gain consensus on the top 10 issues involving members and are progressing development of case processes to reflect these. We are also exploring the possibilities of hosting the solution centrally as well as considering local deployment options.
The Portal will be an enhancement to the core Lagan product. It will help elected members further improve their response to constituents through a consistent approach and a clear view of caseload requests across councils' operational areas. The Portal's development promotes a common standard infrastructure and, to reflect this, some national funding has been agreed to help contribute towards the Portal's development.
The Portal will include features such as:
- Create and view service requests
- Location assistance with integrated maps
- Ward reporting
- Case alerts
- Mobile access
We will be providing regular updates on the development of the Portal. A specific Community of Practice has been set up at http://www.communities.idea.gov.uk/c/1658300/home.do to facilitate communications for the Steering group and is in use for discussion on a number of associated topics.
