WEST Dunbartonshire Council, Falkirk Council and Renfrewshire Council, in conjunction with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, were the worthy recipients of Special Awards at the 2010 Cosla/IS Conference Excellence Awards ceremony on Thursday night.

The Positive Attitudes Group from West Dunbartonshire scooped the Cosla Chair's Award for a project called 'The Good Life'. The group consists of adults with learning disabilities, whose work improves the lives of people like them. Challenging attitudes, the group offers unique, innovative training, conceived by members, and has a lasting impact on lives.

The SOLACE Best Team Award was won by 'Family Matters' . A joint venture from Renfrewshire Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Family Matters targets expectant mothers and carers of children under three, where addiction, mental ill health, learning disability are among the issues that can negatively impact on outcomes for the adult and child.

Falkirk Council were then presented the Scottish Government Award for Delivering Excellence, as a result of their 'Backing Falkirk's Future' policy. This was based on a strategy aimed at integrating the development of the future workforce by increasing the number of Falkirk school leavers entering work-based training and employment.

Congratulations go to all of the Special Award winners on a night that saw the hard work of the thousands of people involved in Scottish local government being recognised.

As always, all the entries for the various awards were of an incredibly high standard and everyone nominated should be commended and praised for their continued commitment to providing the best public service possible.
