A national strategy designed to create a culture of asking questions and sharing information in social services is to be launched this week.

'Sharing Knowledge, Improving Practice, Changing Lives' - a knowledge management strategy and action plan for social services in Scotland - aims to encourage and help social services organisations, staff and service users to ask questions, find and share knowledge, and use it as a part of their day-to-day work and learning. It has been developed by NHS Education for Scotland and the Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services (IRISS).

The strategy explains how

  • social services organisations will work together as a national network to help realise the vision
  • IRISS and NES will work with partners to maximise the use of Social Services Knowledge Scotland and the existing national knowledge infrastructure of shared technology, information and learning resources
  • development of information literacy will empower practitioners, service users and carers to ask questions, find and share and use information.

The strategy is officially launched on 17 March 2010 at an event in Edinburgh.
