The Improvement Service was set up to support improvement in the efficiency, quality and accountability of public services in Scotland through provision of advice and consultancy, project management and support for learning and sharing of knowledge. This website is intended to help elected members, officers and practitioners to share their views and experiences and to access information and resources on issues that concern and affect Scottish local government and the drive for improvement.

Update on Continuous Professional Development Framework for Elected Members PDF Print
The Improvement Service has now launched the CPD Framework for Elected Members in Scottish Local Government in five of the seven pilot councils - East Lothian, Falkirk, Scottish Borders, South Ayrshire and West Dunbartonshire - with the remaining two launches imminent.

The IS is currently working with the seven pilot councils to prepare a tender document for a CPD development programme, which will support the development needs identified by Elected Members around the 14 political skills which comprise the CPD Framework.
