"All Together Better", North Lanarkshire Council's leadership development programme for residential child care staff within Social Work Services, finished on 25 June 2008 with a Celebration Day for participants, their managers and partner agencies.
Robin Burgess, Independent Training Consultant, (Organisation, Leadership and People Development) was commissioned by North Lanarkshire Council to develop and create a personal and team development programme that would contribute to the Council's aspirations for improved outcomes for children and young people.
Over a period of nine months, in a unique programme, 80 residential child care workers took part in input days, action learning sets and individual project work. The programme went beyond the normal core training delivery for staff in that it was a personal/professional development programme for the service as a whole. It required personal commitment beyond that which would normally be required of both managers and staff. For many, it was a journey of discovery, with many hidden strengths and talents being discovered as people tapped into their own leadership potential. Feedback about the programme and the celebration event has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants describing the impact as "life changing". Further information:
