The Improvement Service, working closely with a consortium of Scottish Local Authorities led by Renfrewshire Council, is now launching The Customer Service Professional (CSP) qualifications; a set of three professional qualifications available to all customer-facing staff in Local Authorities.
The first cohort of candidates - from Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire Councils - have already received induction training as a precursor to the formal start of their course. This represents a significant milestone for Scottish local authorities, and will result in the country's first formally qualified Customer Service Professionals.
Designed to be flexible, fitting in with staff time constraints and to be directly relevant to their job, the Customer Service Professional Qualifications are based on a "lightâtouch" approach, principally using online learning and assessment techniques rather than more arduous portfolio methods, and are designed to fit around the work schedules of the candidates. The CSP qualifications are offered as a set of three qualifications, available at Award, Certificate and Diploma standards. They are endorsed by COSLA, and are Quality Assured and certificated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), and as such, are nationally recognised qualifications, carrying the SQA logo. All Scottish councils will soon be invited to follow suit, ensuring a quick take-up of what are expected to be sought-after qualifications. The CSP qualifications have been designed to be portable across all Scottish local authorities, and with the majority of staff churn in local authorities being contained within the Public Sector, they can be viewed as a long term investment in the future of the Scottish Public Sector.
