The ‘Best Council to Work For' initiative, delivered by the IDeA, Local Government Employers and Best Companies, is looking for participants in its 2008 list of the best councils to work for in the UK.
The first list was published in The Times in 2007, generating a huge amount of publicity for those councils that made it into the ‘top 20'. Participants also received top-line survey results and feedback from their employees.
The list, which is based on staff surveys, aims to promote and celebrate the importance of employee engagement and recognize councils' improvement journeys. This year, there will be three categories: Best small council to work for (50 - 499 employees); Best mid-sized council to work for (500 - 4999 employees); and Best large council to work for (5000+ employees).
Participation is free of charge and the application process is now open. Further information can be found at http://www.bestcompanies.co.uk//BestCouncils/About.aspx. The results will be published in The Times in September 2008.
