National Gazetteer Progress Update (1-30 April 08) PDF Print
Local Authorities are continuing to supply data on a regular basis to keep the National Gazetteer up to date. More Authorities are now also starting to migrate their gazetteer management systems to the new British Standard BS7666:2006. IDOX sites can now benefit from a nationally negotiated and procured license of the GMS Exchange product to enable them to supply in both old and new versions of the DTF transfer format.

Nationally, work continues to develop a new National Gazetteer that conforms to BS7666:2006 and to update Scottish Gazetteer Conventions. The first round of meetings of the various conventions working groups have now taken place, and it is hoped to put their initial recommendations out for wider stakeholder review in mid May.

User testing continues for address search web services that will initially support e-planning. These services are comprehensive and designed to support a wide variety of future National Gazetteer users.
