Senior public sector managers should overcome their scepticism of Web 2.0 and social networking and embrace the technologies, according to a report from The Society of Information Technology Management (SOCITM).

'Web 2.0 and social networking: what they are and why they matter - A briefing for public sector managers' explains the technologies of Web 2.0 and social networking but also aims to put fears such as security threats, time wasting and loss of reputation into context. It states that public sector organisations have to accept these new technologies and offers advice on how to steer organisations through the changes by balancing the risks with the opportunities.

The report is available from a SOCITM microsite (http://www.socitmweb2.net/) which contains blogs, a forum and other facilities to encourage feedback and sharing.
