COSLA/Improvement Service Annual Conference 2012 - 16-17 February 2012, St Andrews

The 2012 COSLA and Improvement Service Annual Conference takes place just weeks before the local government elections. Entitled "Great Expectations", the event will look at how we can translate political aspirations into tangible improvements in the lives of people across Scotland. Councils, and their local partners, face severe spending constraints over the next four years. Not only will income fall, but demand for services will increase sharply. If services and outcomes are to be protected for communities across Scotland, innovation and change will be necessary.

The COSLA and Improvement Service Annual Conference continues to be the keynote event in the Scottish local government calendar but and the Scottish political context.

Responding to Christie: the LARIA in Scotland Annual Conference - 22 February 2012, Musselburgh

In 2011 the Christie Commission reported on the future of public services and, in particular, on the guiding principles that should underpin them. The Commission recognised that there was insufficient information available to understand how to allocate public sector resources to achieve the best outcomes for the people of Scotland. The LARIA conference will help to unravel the implications of the report's recommendations for public sector researchers and for the type of research that they should be engaged in.
