Promoting PINs A case study on the fantastic promotional activities of Clackmannanshire Council is now available on the CoP. The PINs Project Team will be in touch with all councils shortly requesting similar promotions plans. You can now also find a description of the PINs Portal on the CoP, along with the tellme logos, which can be used to inform articles in local/staff newsletters, website articles etc.
FAQs An updated copy of the PINs FAQs is now also available on the CoP. These FAQs will be updated frequently and should answer the majority of technical queries you may have. If you experience a technical issue please refer to these FAQs in the first instance. If you cannot find the answer to your query, please contact the PINs Project Team.
Other news PINs Project Manager, Bruce Harley, left the Improvement Service on Friday 28 October. We would like to thank Bruce for all his hard work over the last 19 months and wish him the best of luck in his future. Please be assured that the PINs Project and roll out of tellmescotland will continue as normal. Any issues or requests should now come through the group support mailbox or to Joanna Anderson or Tom McHugh. As always, Steering Group members can find a range of helpful information on the PINs Community of Practice, which can also be used as a platform for discussion between Steering Group members.

Phase 2 developments
Due to varying population densities throughout Scotland, a new postcode radius selector tool has been added to the PINs website to assist alerting. This new tool allows the public to select various postcode radius’s that will fit in with where the postcode lies. For example, residents of central Glasgow can now select a small radius to prevent over-alerting whilst residents in rural areas can select a wide radius to capture notices from further away.
Another development has been the new Tier 1 Administration system. Previously, only Spider Online was able to create logins for admin users. Now, ‘superusers’ within councils will have the ability to set up all users themselves. The PINs Project Team will be contacting all uploading councils to identify your superusers.
Meetings have also been held between the Improvement Service, Spider Online and the Scottish Government to discuss tellmescotland as a Proof of Concept for Open Data. This Proof of Concept is due to be delivered to the Scottish Government by Q1 2012. Spider Online and Ordnance Survey have been discussing the use of their maps within tellmescotland. Spider Online is also beginning work on an iPhone App and mobile website for tellmescotland, with a demo of the App due to be presented at the next Steering Group meeting on 14th December. The PINs Project Team will keep the Group updated as these developments progress.
We have also been engaging with 20 wider public sector organisations since March 2011 Scottish (most recently with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator and Architecture and Design Scotland) and the majority are keen to use the PINs portal. Spider Online is currently in discussion with the Scottish Boundaries Commission, the General Teaching Council for Scotland and the HM Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland and has been working on a temporary solution for the incorporation of these organisations into tellmescotland. These changes are expected on the live site soon. A more permanent solution will be developed as more organisations come on board.
