Welcome to the PINs monthly update
September was a busy month for tellmescotland, with more and more councils publishing notices or becoming fully trained. Moray Council began uploading Planning notices and East Ayrshire Council is now uploading Traffic notices to the live site. City of Edinburgh Council's Traffic and Licensing teams are now trained and ready to begin using the Portal. Scottish Borders Council has also been trained, Dundee City Council expects to provide a go-live date shortly and Aberdeen City Council is keen to move into full implementation as soon as possible.
Service departments from Highland and East Renfrewshire Councils have been trained, and East Lothian and East Ayrshire Councils have sessions arranged throughout October. Engagement meetings are to be held with Angus and West Lothian Councils in October and following this, 31 councils in total will be engaged with tellmescotland. Discussions have been held with further public sector organisations on how they may utilise the portal, including the Water Industry Commission for Scotland, which intends to use tellme to publish its news bulletins.

Phase 2 developments
Phase 2 developments are well underway, offering significant improvements to users and citizens. The enhanced Northgate Licensing upload tool is now ready to be tested and is expected to be available to councils in November 2011. Tier 1 administration of logins and accommodation of wider public sector organisations is expected by the end of this year. Developments due early next year include the generic XML upload tool, a postcode radius selector for alerts, a mobile App, QR codes on council notices, an alternative mapping tool and the Open Data Proof of Concept for the Scottish Government.
Promoting PINs
As more and more councils are using tellmescotland to publish their notices, it is increasingly important that the site is promoted to Scottish citizens. Some great examples of promotion are already underway, with Clackmannanshire Council's extensive promotion plan, Shetland Islands, Dumfries and Galloway, and Aberdeen City Councils placing links to tellmescotland on their own websites and East Ayrshire and Clackmannanshire Councils including the tellmescotland address on their newspaper adverts.

Steering Group update
The last PINs Steering Group meeting was held on 20th September and was attended by 23 delegates from Scottish councils, the Scottish Government and Spider Online. The presentation covered the engagement plan, recent and planned developments, the WDM Integration Group and an update on Media Advertising Reduction. Fourteen councils have now been trained and the remainder of the first tranche of sessions are to be completed by November 2011. The sessions have received very positive feedback and some changes are already being implemented by councils. Ruth Fry from Clackmannanshire Council presented an item on what councils can do to promote PINs, based on the great work she has done so far. Ordnance Survey also presented an alternative mapping option for tellmescotland. The slides and minutes of the meeting will be available on the CoP shortly.
