Welcome to the PINs monthly update
Twenty-nine councils are now engaged with tellmescotland. Twelve councils are uploading notices, 12 are implementing or in training and a further five have now been engaged. The latest training session was held at Perth and Kinross Council. Further training sessions have also been planned for City of Edinburgh, Scottish Borders, East Renfrewshire in September, and West Dunbartonshire Council's planning department is soon to begin the self-training module.
The project team is currently engaging with 20 wider public sector organisations to establish their requirements from tellmescotland. There is to be a phased development of the site so that the final shape and content will be gauged on the gradually known requirements.

Communications strategy Tom McHugh presented the new Communications Strategy at the National Communications Advisory Group meeting on 12th August, highlighting the need to increase PINs awareness and promotion within Councils. Discussions are to be had on what specific activities can be taken forward at a local level and what specifically the Improvement Service can do to support with implementing these activities.
PINs Community of Practice We would encourage all Steering Group members to take advantage of the PINs Community of Practice, which now has 115 members. As well as being able to access wide range information on the Portal, the CoP also provides a useful platform to discuss PINs among colleagues from other councils.

What's new this month?
Northgate is currently building and testing the update to the existing Licensing transfer mechanism and have indicated that the export will be made available on the next standard release of GLAMIS. This will allow councils to automatically upload Occasional and other licensing types. Spider Online is also to begin work on the development on a generic XML interface, an Open Data Proof of Concept and is currently looking into providing 'Super Admin Access', allowing staff in councils to set up their own users.
Alastair Blair has been working with councils to help reduce their newspaper advertising costs. Savings have been estimated at £900k across Scotland. Training has been held with Angus, Clackmannanshire, Dundee City, Fife, Perth and Kinross, South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire, North Lanarkshire and North Ayrshire Councils. Training dates are under discussion with a further 13 councils and the Training Plan is to be completed across all councils by the end of the year, with three, six and 12 month audits planned to report on savings. We are also working with Scotland Excel and councils to improve financial benefits for annual advertising costs.
