In the lead up to the local government elections in May 2017, the Improvement Service, in partnership with Scottish councils, is producing a series of induction notebooks for elected members. The seven notebooks are designed to provide Scottish councillors with information, support and guidance to help them fulfil their role as elected members.
The notebooks cover a range of subjects, from what to expect in the first few weeks in office, to roles and responsibilities, to governance. Each notebook contains elected members’ own reflections and experiences of the issues discussed, as well as advice from serving councillors who share “what they wish they’d known”.
Each of Scotland’s 32 councils will be provided with its own versions of the notebooks that contain local, as well as national, links to useful documents and websites. The generic versions of the notebooks will be available on our Local Councillor website at www.localcouncillor.scot/induction.html
