On 3 December the Improvement Service will be presented with the nationally recognised Cycle Friendly Employer Award by Cycling Scotland. The Award aims to support and encourage cycling as a healthy, sustainable and accessible way to travel to work.
As a recipient of the Award, the Improvement Service will benefit from guidance, resources and one-to-one support to enable an increase in staff cycle rates.
The Improvement Service is a participant in the Cycle to Work scheme, offering tax discounts on cycle purchases via salary sacrifice. The organisation has also hosted various cycling-related events which have all resulted in a growing interest in cycling.
Despite this positivity, there is still a heavy reliance on staff using their cars for their commute to work and also to meetings, with the car park close to full.
As a result, cycling enthusiasts at the Improvement Service, contacted Cycling Scotland about the Award to get more people involved.
Interim Chief Executive of the Improvement Service, Sarah Gadsden, commented:
“We are delighted that we will be recognised by Cycling Scotland as a Cycle Friendly Employer.
“Cycling is beneficial for both mental and physical health. But, it also saves people money, reducing the cost of their commute, and reducing congestion.
“We want to make it easier for our staff to cycle. The appetite for it is there so we look forward to working with The Cycle Friendly Employer programme to make it easier for this to happen.”
