Children at Holmston Primary School, Ayr try out a gritterThe Roads Collaboration Programme has been working with Ayrshire Roads Alliance and East Ayrshire Education to provide two educational insight events into roads careers.
An event at Holmston Primary School in Ayr gave pupils the chance to ask questions about the road service and climb aboard the gritter.
Another event at Galston welcomed S3 pupils from six secondary schools in South and East Ayrshire to tour the depot, watch demonstrations and try activities relating to roadworks.
The sessions were designed for an interactive learning experience, giving participants the opportunity to meet road operatives and apprentices and consider roads as a positive careers choice.
Activities included include object handling, viewing roadworking machinery in action and Q and A opportunities.
The activities are being repeated across Scotland’s roads services, other schools engagement earlier this year included mock interviews in Edinburgh and Forth Valley, with STEM events planned for October in Stirling and Falkirk.
Managers responsible for training in each roads authority can access a range of careers materials and upcoming events similar to these on Knowledge Hub.
