The current Chief Executive, Colin Mair, will retire at the end of the March 2018 and the Improvement Service wishes to appoint an interim Chief Executive, for a minimum of 8 months, to support the delivery of current priorities and to work with the Improvement Service Board to review future options.
The Improvement Service is the national improvement organisation for councils and its partners in Scotland and has developed a strong reputation for supporting councils and their partners across Scotland to develop and improve.
The interim Chief Executive role is fundamental to ensuring that existing and ongoing business of the Improvement Service is well maintained and that the strategic direction of the organisation is focused on supporting councils and partners to deliver affordable, practical and effective services, relevant to the needs of local communities. This is a significant challenge given the severe economic climate and demand pressures which face the public sector and requires strong leadership, sound collaborative and influencing skills, and political awareness of the highest order. Alongside this, the interim Chief Executive will support the Board with a strategic review of future options, including a review of governance arrangements, to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the organisation in challenging times.
Applications are invited from appropriately qualified staff from the Improvement Service, member councils and COSLA who can demonstrate the skills and qualities necessary to fill this interim post.
