It is sportscotland’s mission to encourage everyone in Scotland to discover and develop their own sporting experience, helping to increase participation and improve performance. For some groups in society, including women and girls, this mission is also a challenge. This Annual Review highlights the progress made by the sportscotland group and our partners in the year 1 April 2007 - 31 March 2008. It includes an update on our priority work areas, as outlined in the 2007-11 sportscotland corporate plan, including Active Schools, coaching, community sport, performance development, quality facilities, strong partners and a strong sportscotland. Leaving no stone unturned – sportscotland supports curling development
Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell and sportscotland Chief Executive Stewart Harris were in Lockerbie today (Tuesday 18 November) to officially open the upgraded Lockerbie Ice Rink, which received sportscotland funding and to announce the sportscotland annual investment in the governing body for curling, the Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC).

Employment of sports people and migration regulations
The visa requirements for entry into the UK are changing from 27th November 2008. The changes mean that any governing body who wishes to employ people from outwith the EU (or who's clubs wish to do so), need to be registered as sponsors with the Home Office. This process can take some time, so if this effects you then please sign up ASAP. For further information on the new visa system and regulations for sports people entering the UK please see the attached briefing notes and code of practice.

Basketball scores increased sportscotland investment
sportscotland today announced an investment of over £300,000 in basketballscotland, the largest annual investment ever awarded to the sport in Scotland.
