South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture staff play vital role in combined effort

More than 400 South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture staff have been volunteering in a wide variety of roles during the coronavirus crisis.

Among the tasks the 430 volunteers have been involved with are calling people in the community who are shielding or may just need some extra support, delivering meals and medicines, managing queues at local pharmacies, helping out at Care Homes and school hubs, and much more.

As well as supporting council colleagues, SLLC are also adapting to keep their customers and communities engaged and connected during lock-down through new and innovative online offerings.

This includes the launch of free programme of live fitness sessions, arts and cultural talks, tutorials and children’s activities on Facebook along with new YouTube content through initiatives such as the children’s library feed. Look out for features on these and many more initiatives on the View news pages in the weeks to come.

David said: “There is a real depth of programming which is unique to our new live online approach with content provided for all ages, abilities and interests.

“I would encourage anyone who hasn’t already checked it out to do so and spread the word amongst friends and family.

“From a personal point of view, I want to thank all my staff who are either volunteering, have been instrumental in setting up our new online features, or are continuing to allow us to function by providing vital back-office support like our administrative, financial, IT and HR teams.

“I am so proud of everyone at SLLC and of course our council, NHS, emergency services and indeed all workers continuing to do their very best during this crisis.”
