We are rapidly reaching the deadline for applying to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) - 30 June 2021. EEA nationals resident in the UK will need to apply to the EUSS in order to continue to live, work and access services in the UK.
COSLA is working with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to provide Scotland-wide assistance to local authorities supporting vulnerable people (including looked after children and care leavers) through their EUSS application. It has 3 OISC-certified IOM caseworkers based in COSLA and can provide Level 3 immigration advice. There is one caseworker dedicated to supporting local authorities to ensure their looked after children and care leavers apply to the EUSS. For further information on the duties places on local authorities please see EUSS: looked-after children and care leavers guidance.
COSLA is hosting a series of online awareness raising sessions for local authorities to ensure frontline staff are aware on the requirements for the EUSS, can identify vulnerable people within their local authority area, and are confident in referring cases to the IOM service. This general session is open to all local authority departments that may work with EU/EEA citizens.
If you would like to attend, please contact Cameron Heenan, Policy Officer at COSLA.
