This year’s Heads of Planning Annual Conference will focus on Patrick Geddes’ principles of Place, Work, Folk.

Town Planning is not mere place-planning, nor even work planning. If it is to be successful it must be folk planning. This means that its task is not to coerce people into new places against their associations, wishes, and interest, as we find bad schemes trying to do. Instead its task is to find the right places for each sort of people; place where they will really flourish.

The conference will take a look at ongoing work in the region through the lens of these themes. We will be joined by a number of speakers from the Scottish Borders and beyond to look at recent work being carried out.

The HOPS conference is open to anyone with an interest in the built environment in Scotland.
