In this month's update we have a welcome message from our new Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) Workforce Planning Manager, Vicki Keirnan, plus a new case study.
Welcome message
"Hello, I’m Vicki Keirnan, the new Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) Workforce Planning Manager in the Recovery and Delivery Programme. I joined the Improvement Service at the beginning of August and have received the most glorious welcome from my direct team and beyond. Everyone has been super friendly and helpful, particularly with directions - yes, I did get lost in the office on my first day!
"In the following months, I’ll be focusing on analysing workforce data and using our engagement with local authorities to support the Scottish Government Workforce Team in tackling key challenges within the ELC sector. This includes developing strategies for recruitment and retention and exploring ways to effectively monitor the Real Living Wage payment to staff in the sector. We’ll also be working to establish a set of guiding principles for workforce planning across the sector for the future.
"I am looking forward to facilitating the Association of Directors of Education Scotland (ADES) ELC Quality Profession Workshop in Dundee on the 13 September. Bringing together all ADES representatives will be an excellent opportunity to better understand what challenges the local authority workforce face and presents a fantastic opportunity to introduce myself to the members and explain where we can help, both locally and nationally.
"When I’m not working, I have three children who keep me on my toes and love nothing more than good food, nice wine, and a bingeworthy tv series. I also love playing field hockey and have been goalkeeper at my local club for longer than I care to remember!
"Please feel free to reach out to me to collaborate or have a quick chat."
Data Pipeline - One Year On
We’ve recently published a new case study, Data Pipeline – One Year on: What have we learnt?
This case study examines the recent success in data sharing to support Scotland’s most disadvantaged two-year-olds.
