The latest dataset to be added to the Improvement Service’s Spatial Hub platform is information from sportscotland on the location of sports facilities across the country.

The data can be downloaded and used by anyone from local government, the public sector and community organisations as well as interested individuals who want to know what sporting facilities are located in their local area.

Sports facilities included in the dataset range from ice rinks and bowling greens to fitness suites and swimming pools, covering a wide range of sporting activities.

This kind of information can support the development of the 20-minute neighbourhood concept in Scotland, which calls for good access to services that support local living. 20-minute neighbourhoods are places where everyone can meet most of their daily needs within a short walk, wheel or cycle of their home. They are an integral part of NPF4 (National Planning Framework), the Scottish Government’s national spatial strategy.

Anyone can sign up for a free Spatial Hub account, giving them access to this data from sportscotland, as well as other local government and public sector data on a wide range of public services and functions.

The Spatial Hub is an online resource that provides a single point of access to quality-assured Scottish local authority data on planning, the environment and transport, with sporting facilities being the latest data added. It was developed in 2015 by the Improvement Service, the 'go-to' organisation for local government improvement in Scotland.
